Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Mebane, NC

Rev. James W. Brown and Rev. Norman T. Umstead, Jr. were recently honored during Passion Week for their role in raising funds for the Central Children’s Home in Oxford, NC.

Both pastors were instrumental in forming the Passion Week Committee, which since 2003, has made a difference in the community through outreach and support of Central Children's Home. Pastor Emeritus, Brown, was presented a plaque and a gift. We are especially blessed, that at the age of ninety-three he is still able to impart to us, words of wisdom and encouragement. 

Pastor Umstead was presented a trophy that resembles a torch. He was honored for 22+ years of dedicated and committed service carrying this torch, given three other pioneers (Rev. T. E. Taylor, Dr. T. C. Nicholson, and Rev. Calvin Miller) were called from Earthly labor to reward.

Umstead and Brown - two strong pillars in the community - were commended for their enduring commitment and keeping this spirit-led cause alive. As part of the original charter; the legacy of the Passion Week Committee remains in capable hands. The torch continues to illuminate the children's pathway, offering a beacon of light and a guiding force in their lives.

The original "founding fathers" of this great mission work are: Rev. T. E. Taylor (Lee’s Chapel); Rev. James W. Brown, Emeritus (Warren’s Chapel | Allen’s Chapel); Dr. T. C. Nicholson (Glenns Grove | Jones Grove); Rev. Norman T. Umstead, Jr.  (Mt. Moriah Baptist Church); and Rev. Calvin E. Miller (Orange Crossroads).

This outreach endeavor has increased over the years and presently encompasses twelve member-churches: Allen's Chapel (Vacant); Glenns Grove (Rev. J. W. Wilson); Grace Outreach Ministry (Rev. Keisha Bluford); Jones Grove (Rev. Tremaine Royster); *Lee’s Chapel (Rev. Steven Dickerson); Mt. Gilead [Orange] (Rev. Beverly H. Graham); *Mt. Moriah (Rev. Norman T. Umstead, Jr.); Olive Hill (Rev. Sharon Farrish); Orange Crossroads (Rev. Vaughan Brayboy, Jr). Piney Grove (Rev. Tony Boss); Quiet Stream Ministries (Rev, Beverly H. Graham); and Warren's Chapel (Vacant).

The Passion Week Revival is an opportunity of praise and worship, while pooling our resources to make a difference in the lives of the children at Central Children's Home. We are inspired by visionaries who exemplify Biblical principals regarding ministering to the marginalized and underserved - James 1:27; Deuteronomy 10:18; and Isaiah 1:17.
